Valuable hay products, such as lucerne, should be protected from harsh environmental extremes during storage in hot climates. Usually people will use PE tarpaulin, like those produced in ZB plastic (www.zbplastic.com). But do you aware that tarpaulin with different colors will have different effect to the hay? Scientists suggest that white tarpaulin is the best option to cover your hay. Besides tarpaulin, adding a roof structure will also provide the best protection against the heat.
Scientists from University of California and Autonomous University of Baja California carried out an experiment to evaluate the effect of tarpaulin color on the quality and digestive attributes of lucerne (Medicago sativa) hay during a 20 week summer storage period. They find out that hay bales covered with black tarpaulin had the greatest (P<0.05) heat damage of all treated hay. The white tarpaulin had the best result in protecting hay against the heat in comparison to black tarpaulin and silver tarpaulin.
We have enough stock of white tarpaulin for you to cover your hay, if you are in need, please feel free to contact ZB plastic (firstname.lastname@example.org).
